Retrofitting specifically adds sensor technology, data acquisition and interfaces, making them digitally visible step by step without changing their basic functions. It is important to distinguish between two retrofit approaches:

• Life-sustaining retrofit:
  Brings the system up to the latest state of the art in terms of its basic functions.
• Industry 4.0 retrofit:
  The basic functions of the machine remain unchanged, while it is gradually digitized – from simple process data acquisition to complex applications.

Ready for the new Machinery Regulation 2023/1230

As of January 20, 2027, the EU Machinery Regulation 2023/1230 will apply to all new machinery placed on the EU market. Machinery must then be designed to withstand unauthorized access or tampering that could compromise safety-critical functions. As machine builders, we are already taking these requirements into account today and integrating protective measures to ensure the safe design, manufacture, and use of machines - while considering digital technologies and the complexity of modern manufacturing.

However, design plans, software architecture, and network integration points must be reevaluated whenever a significant change is made to the machine that affects its safety or function. Clear guidelines and documentation on cybersecurity will also be required.
